What's the proper coding to use for ultrasound vein mapping for AVF/AVG creation for hemodialysis? The doctor uses ultrasound on the patient's arm while patient is in preop holding area and marks the vasculature on the patient's skin with marker. Is this even billable? Thanks in advance for your assistance!

Normally the codes are:
1. Use 36821- for DIRECT AV fistula creation.
2. Use 36825 for OTHER THAN DIRECT AV fistula creation.
3. Use 93970- for Ultrasound done on bilateral arms.
4. Or Use 93971- for Ultrasound done on one arm.
There is no CCI bundling. But because this service is performed in preop holding area and not in the OT or Radiology dept, it (93970/93971) should NOT be billed separately.

Thanks for the reply! How about the code for an intraop Doppler after AVF/AVG creation? Example: clamps are release and excellent flow was confirmed by Doppler.
